If you are a loyal reader of this blog, chances are that you read Gerhard Kruger’s post about our Visual Studio Integration.  In this article, Gerhard talks about accessing TestTrack Pro items and Surround SCM actions from within Visual Studio. I’d like to present a different angle to this integration, specifically, the TestTrack Pro integration.

Since Visual Studio is also the TFS client, this means that you can also access TestTrack Pro items from TFS.  Following is a screenshot of the TestTrack Pro defect list (renamed to “Issues”) docked along the source code view in TFS.  If you use TFS for source control and would like to update TestTrack Pro items, use the TestTrack Pro Add-in toolbar so you don’t have to use two different clients.

How does licensing work with this? Would a person assigned a floating license have one assigned to them whenever they have the Visual Studio IDE open?

Good question. The license (named or floating) gets used when the user chooses to connect to TestTrack through the add-in toolbar. In the screenshot above, you should see the toolbar for TestTrack. On it, you have a ‘connect’ and ‘disconnect’ button, so the user can control when the connection is made and when to disconnect.

Does this still work with the 2011 version of TTP? If so, where is the download for it since I don’t see it on this page. Thanks!

The above article talks about using the TestTrack Add-in toolbar, which is provided with the TestTrack installer. During the installation of the client, there is a check box for the Visual Studio Add-in.

Thanks Fernando, now I understand.

Is it possible for one to add buttons to this toolbar to open or work with Requirements and Test Cases or Test runs too?

Thanks,
Ron

The TestTrack Add-in toolbar just handles defects at this moment. If you think requirements and test case access would be useful, please make sure you submit a feature request (http://www.seapine.com/requestfeature.php), that way we can make sure it is considered for an upcoming release.
