One question I get every now and then is how to implement a test sequence in TestTrack TCM. The concept of “before you test Y, you must test X first”.

TestTrack’s built-in time tracking features make it easy to manage estimates, get updates on actual and remaining effort, and gain insight from the data about project status. You can track and report on time for specific items or across all items in a project—all directly in TestTrack. For a quick introduction to time tracking, see How TestTrack Time Tracking Works.
Use the following tips to make configuring time tracking easier. After completing some pre-work, you can easily modify projects to implement time tracking the way you want to use it and test the configuration before users start entering time.

CLI parsing got you down? Good news, we’ve got an API for that. We introduced a cross-platform C API with Java and .NET wrappers in the Surround SCM 2010.0 release. All three versions of the API have the same functionality – anything you can do from the C API you can do from either Java or .NET. “What can I do with the API?”, you ask. Well, you can Add a file, Checkin, Checkout, Get, Undo Checkout, Search, Create repository, Create branch, Promote, Rebase, Manage labels, Add user, Rollback files, Share, Break share, and much more.

Thomism, the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas, holds that all intellectual knowledge comes through the senses. (ST I.84.6) This opinion is in direct contradiction with Cartesianism, the philosophy of René Descartes, which doubts the validity of sensate-derived intellectual knowledge. The scientific method implicitly agrees with Aquinas because it too begins with using our senses in the form of observations. Scientists should derive hypotheses from observations, not metaphysical ideas existing purely in the mind.

We recently released version 2010.1 of TestTrack, which contains many new exciting new features. One new feature that I would like to give some love to is Item Mapping Rules. This feature will benefit users who have more than one TestTrack applications, as it allows you to configure how field values are mapped from one application to another.

With the release of Surround SCM 2010 & TestTrack 2010.1, the Seapine License Server now supports logging license usage events. This presents an opportunity to better understand how licenses are being used across your Surround SCM and TestTrack installation.
We’ve had the TT License Monitor tool for quite a while, but it provides a very limited set of data on floating licenses and nothing on named license usage. I’ve been excited about the new logging functionality ever since I saw the first design document, and when it was code complete I immediately put “take it for a spin” on my schedule.

With Seapine License Server 2010.1.1 and later, you can configure license pools to manage access to floating licenses. This gives you the ability to maximize use and distribute floating licenses across business units, divisions, or geographic locations. It can also help ensure that specific users, such as developers or testers, always have access to a license.
