TestTrack filters can solve a number of requests from finding to sorting data, filters also play a big role in automation rules. Filters can be published as RSS feeds, can be interactive and dynamic, and can also be used in most list views, reports and folders.

In TestTrack RM, the default requirements workflow includes a Review Note event that reviewers use to provide feedback on individual requirements.
Before requirements are approved, it’s crucial to make sure all review notes are addressed. You can make this easier by adding a check box to the Review Note event, which users select after addressing a note. You can also create a filter to display requirements that still contain review notes to address. Users can apply this filter to quickly find requirements that need attention.

TestTrack 2010.1, which was released in April 2010, includes folder enhancements that were specifically designed to help you organize and manage the work in a project release, sprint, or iteration. Folders now have a type associated with them, which means you can create custom folders for different purposes. I am going to focus on one folder option — release planning.

Most commonly, the teams use story points as a high-level estimate of the difficulty of a specific task or work item. TestTrack is flexible in allowing you to manage stories in a variety of ways, we’ve outlined a straight-forward process here to get you started. As you become familiar with using story points, feel free to tweak your TestTrack configuration to better meet the need of your team.

Aside from the usual tasks, like conducting training classes and configuring workflows, there was one interesting challenge. The customer wanted to integrate TestTrack RM and TestTrack TCM with ClearQuest. The customer did not want to use the ClearQuest API because they were using a very old version of ClearQuest and were planning on upgrading. The risk of changes in the API between the versions was high.

The add-in allows you to create new defects, requirements, requirement documents, and test cases directly from a TestTrack menu in Outlook.

TestTrack’s built-in time tracking features make it easy to manage estimates, get updates on actual and remaining effort, and gain insight from the data about project status. Use the following tips to make configuring time tracking easier. After completing some pre-work, you can easily modify projects to implement time tracking the way you want to use it and test the configuration before users start entering time.
