IDE Integration
Developers spend most of their time working in their Integrated Development Environment (IDE), and having to switch tools to update a bug or check in code can be tedious and inefficient. Tools that integrate with the IDE are beneficial because they allow users to stay in the IDE and not have to bother with switching to another tool.
Eclipse is one of the most popular IDEs for Java development. Seapine ALM provides a tight integration that allows users to access defect, test, and requirement artifacts as well as source code control functions to update files.

Surround SCM on May 12, 2010 Surround SCM supports integration with Microsoft Access. SCC integration within Access is implemented through the Microsoft Source Code Control Interface (MSSCCI). You’ll also need the Access source code control add-in.
The Microsoft Office plug-in is optionally installed during the Surround SCM Client installation. If you did not install it initially, rerun the client installer. When you start Access, the Surround SCM connection is automatically configured. You can also configure the connection manually.

Surround SCM on July 28, 2009 Recently I wrote a post on the .MySCMServerInfo file, and I mentioned that one of its uses is the IDE integration. In this post, I am going to break this down a little further, and explain the Visual Studio integration with Surround SCM in more detail. For more information, read the Surround SCM-Visual Studio integration instructions or watch a quick video of the integration in action.

Surround SCM on July 02, 2009 Recently there have been a couple posts about moving working directories and the .MySCMServerInfo file. Some users are not sure what this file is, what it is for, and what it does. During one of my on-site visits, a user thought that the application was being used incorrectly because all of these strange .MySCMServerInfo files kept popping up in every working directory. Even as the user deleted the .MySCMServerInfo files, they kept coming back!

Surround SCM on October 23, 2006 Software configuration management (SCM) is an essential part of the development lifecycle process. An SCM tool assists in the development process and increases individual and overall team productivity. Because most developers use some type of Integrated Development Environment (IDE), it greatly benefits the development team to have an SCM tool that integrates with the IDE of their choice. Developers generally prefer to stay within the boundaries of their IDE when developing and maintaining code. Switching between an SCM tool and the IDE slows down the development process and prevents developers from reaching a high level of efficiency. Convenience and ease of use are also important issues when working with an SCM tool, therefore the SCM tool must seamlessly integrate with the IDE. A number of SCM tools for the Windows platform support the Microsoft Source Code Control Interface (MSSCCI), which allows providers to integrate into Microsoft’s Visual Studio suite. This article provides a glimpse into the MSSCCI. Seapine’s Surround SCM is used to illustrate a sophisticated integration with Visual Studio .NET 2005.
